  11. Brilliant results with Cfast!

We have been getting brilliant results with Cfast. This treatment can take up to 6 months to get your teeth straight, but for less severe cases we have seen some patients complete treatment with in 4 months! This procedure straightens your front 6 teeth and does not interfere with the bite.

Cfast might not be suitable for everyone though. If the back teeth are in a good biting position, the front teeth can be straightened using Cfast ™. This works using a tooth coloured, barely noticeable fixed appliance that straightens the front teeth. At the end of the treatment, a fixed bar is hidden and bonded behind the teeth, as well as a night time guard are provided to prevent any relapse and ensure a permanent straight smile. This treatment is only available for adult patients and can give you a smile that you have always wanted with no damage to your teeth whatsoever.

For information about orthodontic braces or CFast ™ please don’t hesitate to book a complimentary appointment with Lily our Treatment Co-Ordinator by clicking here.

  12. Dental Implants

There are a number of reasons why a tooth may be lost. It could be because the tooth has decayed or broken to the point that it cannot be restored. It could also be because the root support has become affected by gum disease and the tooth has become too loose to keep in place.

Whatever the reason you may find yourself with a missing tooth, there is never any need for you to accept the gap. Dental implants provide a fixed long term solution to tooth loss. Traditionally, when a tooth was missing, the options involved either leaving the gap, placing a denture (which would need to be removed and cleaned each day) or restoring the gap with a bridge. Bridges, like implants, are fixed options. However, their major drawback is that they require the teeth either side of the gap to be filed down and are therefore not particularly conservative.

Implants on the other had provide a false tooth that is as firm (if not firmer) than natural teeth and without the need to interfere with the teeth either side of the gap. They thus provide a perfect replacement with minimal damage.

So how do they work? Put simply, the titanium implants are placed in your bone and allowed to integrate. This process is known as “osseointegration” and is the biological process that allows attachments to be made in bone and forms the basis of other medical procedures such as hip replacements. Once the osseointegration process has taken place (and as a rough guide, for dental implants, this is anything between 12-20 weeks depending on the density of your bone), a false tooth (crown or bridge) can be attached to the implant. The implant is therefore acting as a new root.

If you would like to know more information about how implants can replace your missing teeth, contact the clinic on 01923 859678 and ask to speak to our treatment plan coordinator to arrange a free consultation.

  13. Dental Veneers

If a dentist is approached by a patient who wishes to have the appearance of their teeth improved it is important to try and understand what detail of their teeth the patient wants to change.

The changes can involve the colour of the teeth, the position of the teeth in the mouth or the shape of the teeth. There are many different cosmetics procedures that will cater for a single change. Where aspects of all three possible changes are desired, dental porcelain veneers (DPV) can often achieve all three.

DPVs are thin layers of porcelain that are placed over the front surfaces of the teeth that need to be changed. Before the veneers are made, your dentist will assess which teeth are to have the veneers by discussing your desired smile change. The selected teeth will be prepared by removing a very thin layer of enamel from the surface. Impressions of the prepared teeth will then be sent to a dental laboratory technician who will make bespoke thin layers of porcelain that fit perfectly over the prepared teeth, the colour having been chosen at the preparation appointment. These DPVs are then bonded on to the prepared teeth by your dentist using special dental bonding adhesives.

The bespoke nature of the process means that whatever smile you are after can be created to specification. So whether it is a dazzling white straight smile or something more subtle, together with your dentists and the laboratory technician, you can become a co-creator in your new smile.

People who have been through this process will tell you that a new smile has changed their life. Where previously they may have developed a habit of placing a hand over their mouth when talking to people or turning away from the camera when a photo is being taken, a new smile gives the confidence to engage socially where previously this was not done.

If you would like more information on DPVs and how they can change your life, call our treatment plan coordinator Lily Talbot on 01923 859678 or email lily@dental-radlett.com

  14. My Cfast Diary!

    Radlett - Sponsored Blog Images2-03

A wonderful account of the Cfast process by one of our lovely patients called Adam!

There’s a Jewish joke about whose mother makes the best chicken soup.  I can tell you, it’s definitely my Mum.  The other best I can tell you is which is the best dental clinic.  That would be the Dental Clinic in Radlett.  I see Simon, but friends tell me Stuart is just as brilliant.

I was looking at Facebook a few months ago and noticed a post from the Dental Clinic about getting straight teeth using a new system called Cfast.  A subtle white brace which could correct teeth which were not straight.  It would take up to 6 months but last a life time.

I made an appointment to discuss the possibility of Cfast working for me and Simon and Lily answered all the questions I had.  No one had ever said I had crooked teeth but it bothered me.  I was a little concerned about what people would say about me wearing a brace but thought it would be worth it because I would be really happy at the end.  Turns out I’m more than happy.   I’m thrilled!!

The first appointment Simon took fresh moulds of my teeth.  That was straight forward enough.  I then booked in a week later to have the brace fitted.  The appointment took about an hour.  It certainly felt odd on my inside lip for a few days and I kept puffing my cheeks out.  The wax stopped any aggregating sores or cuts and after a few days I almost forgot I was wearing it.

The first month was slow, as Simon said it would be.  He said that’s when all the ligaments are being stretched.  I went in for a check-up and Simon made a couple of adjustments which took about half an hour.

Month two was when things started to happen.  I began to notice that the wire was looking straighter.  There was no pain but my teeth were definitely on the move.  At the end of the month I went back to Simon for a few more adjustments.  He said I’d probably be done in under 4 months.  It was great to think I was at least half way.

By the end of month 3 my teeth were looking really straight.  Not perfect, but still really good.  Again Simon made a few adjustments although these were for finishing touches.  Two weeks later I went back and was thrilled to hear I was done.  Simon took fresh moulds for a wire retainer for the back of my teeth.  I had to leave everything in place until that was ready a week later.

It took about an hour to fit the wire and take off the braces.  It’s not the greatest feeling when the braces come off but only lasts a couple of minutes and when I got to look in the mirror, well, that was awesome.  I joked with Simon the next day that I had to take Nurofen for the jaw ache I had because I’d been smiling so much.

All that was left to do was prepare a back up retainer to wear at night.  It’s really easy to wear.  It doesn’t affect my sleep and doesn’t feel like I have a gob stopper in my mouth.  It’s a little bit like an Invisalign brace.

I’m just in the process of whitening my teeth now.  Simon said I should use the gel for a few weeks, just until my teeth are about the same colour as the whites of my eyes.

The Cfast system was absolutely brilliant.  Quick, painless, and the result was great.  There may be days at the beginning when you wonder if it is worth it.  It so is!!!

Cfast is just one of the many options available at The Dental Clinic Radlett. If you would like a complimentary consultation please do not hesitate to book an appointment by calling us on 01923859678 or contact us for more information!

  15. Smile Design

    smile quote

May at The Dental Clinic Radlett is Smile Design month!

Have you ever felt self-conscious about your smile?

Do you cover your mouth with your hand when you laugh?

Is there always a moment of doubt when the cameras come out?

Smile design involves any treatment that changes your smile and improves your self-confidence.

This could mean having crowns, veneers, implants or Short term orthodontics.

Patients who book in during May can benefit from a FREE consultation and £100 Selfridges gift vouchers on completion of any treatments £1500 and over!

Have a read below to find out more about some of the treatments we offer here at the practice which can transform your smile

    Porcelain crowns

Porcelain crowns are made of natural looking porcelain can improve your overall smile and blend in with your own teeth.  They are the perfect restoration if your teeth are damaged, decayed or are not aesthetically pleasing.  Crowns can strengthen the remaining natural tooth structure and can drastically improve the look of your teeth

Porcelain veneers can provide the lasting result of a smile makeover.  They can improve the look of crooked, uneven teeth and can create the illusion of a beautiful, straight, natural smile.

Veneers require a minimum amount of tooth reduction and are therefore a more conservative restoration than a crown.  Having veneers means you can alter the position, shape or colour of the teeth and can make a dramatic difference to your smile and self-esteem.

If you have to replace a missing tooth or have dentures, dental implants could be an option for you.

A dental implant acts as an artificial root for a missing tooth and is made of titanium.  It is placed in your mouth and bonds with your jaw bone becoming strong and secure like the real root of a tooth.  Once the implant is securely fixed, a crown is secure on top of the implant.

The treatment is responsible for easing the suffering of tooth loss in thousands of patients every day.  The treatment is reliable and effective and not only restores smiles but can improve quality of life.

C-Fast is cosmetic tooth alignment for adults and focuses on your front 6 teeth in your smile line.  The treatment is fast, discreet, affordable and has amazing results in as little as 3-6 months.  Using tooth coloured wire and clear brackets it gently straightens your teeth to you a beautiful, healthy smile.

If you like the sound of any of these treatments and are thinking of treating yourself, call now for a complimentary consultation and find out how we can help you achieve the smile you have always wanted.

  16. The Wedding Bar and Batmitzvah Show

    wedding show pic

On Sunday 6th April, we attended The Wedding Bar & Batmitzvah Show on behalf of the practice. We were there to offer deals on Teeth Whitening and Cfast (Cosmetic tooth alignment) for any brides or grooms to be, but also for any parents of children who were organising Bar or Batmitzvahs.

We ended bumping into a lot of familiar faces! Including a handful of lovely patients, some people who used to work on the high street in Radlett and last but not least Michael – the magician who visited the practice to help out on our Kids Smile Fun Day back in February! It was lovely to catch up with everyone and it was also great chatting to all the people who were interested in wanting perfect smiles for their special day!

The day was fun and was very well organised by both the team at The Village Hotel & the company who organised the event.  We hope to be able to attend next time!

  17. Sprint To The Finish With Cfast Part 2

    adam before
My name is Adam.  I’m 34 years old, married, with three children.  The last thing I thought I would ever do in my 30’s was have braces attached to my teeth.  If anything I expected to be paying for them for my children in due course.
I don’t know the name of different teeth but the ones inside by canine teeth on the top row sat quite a way back and the front row of my bottom teeth were getting more and more crooked.  They had been getting worse over time which I am told is common as people get older.  Also, my teeth were getting more and more yellow (sounds attractive), even though I’ve never smoked, don’t drink red wine, don’t drink fizzy drinks and brush my teeth twice a day (although I’m told I should floss more).
I spoke with Simon and he said that there was something new which would be perfect for me.  It was called CFast.  It was a neutral colour brace and it could fix the problem in about 6 months.  I had thought about systems like Invisalign but everyone I knew who had used it said it took a lot longer, especially because there was a tendency not to wear them for meetings, parties, or just a random day off.
I thought about it for a few days and figured that people spend a fortune on their hair, their glasses, laser eye surgery, botox, and other plastic surgeries.  Some of these things last a day, a week, a few years and then they have to be re-done  In contrast, if I had straight teeth now, I could keep them that way for the rest of my life (as long as I look after them and I knew Simon would make sure I did).
I’ve now been wearing the CFast for 2 months and the change is phenomenal.  All being well I may actually only keep the braces on for 4 months.  After that my teeth can be whitened (although I wont be going for a Hollywood white) and then, well, that’s it.
Yes, people can see that I am wearing braces, but many people have to squint their eyes just to double check they see what they think they can see.  When people ask me about it they are actually really impressed about the speed and how neutral it looks.  I think a few have been to see their dentist to ask about it.
The best news though is that CFast didn’t interfere with my training for the London Marathon.  If I cant keep up with Mo Farah then I am determined to be the first person with CFast to finish.  I’m running for an amazing charity called Nicki’s Smile which is part of Pancreatic Cancer UK.  The money which is raised goes towards the early diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer, which is also known as the silent killer because it is often too late to do anything about it by the time it is diagnosed.  If you would like to know more about this then please have a look at my fundraising page www.virginmoneygiving.com/adammyeroff  You will see just why this charity means so much to me.   Once you have done that, if you have ever thought about straitening your teeth then definitely give the Dental Clinic in Radlett a call.

  18. Same Day Smiles!

Last week we welcomed Ashley Byrnes at our clinic who runs the award winning Byrnes dental laboratory in Oxford.

Amongst other things, we discussed the start of a new and very exciting chapter for our practice. Working in tandem with Ashley and his team we have launched `Same Day Smiles` at The Dental Clinic Radlett.

If you have an old denture or teeth that are failing, we can provide you with dental implants which are attached to your jaw and then we can fix a bridge onto the implants at the same visit. The laboratory work is carried out immediately and on-site. There is now no need to wear a denture whilst your gums heal following the extraction of teeth. The added advantage to placing implants immediately is that it maintains the shape of your jaw and gums which will result in a more natural smile. Furthermore, the unique facility of offering an on-site laboratory technician means that the cosmetic appearance can be designed and constructed with your input whilst the technician makes the bridge.

The implants for `Same Day Smiles` are placed by an experienced specialist oral surgeon who has years of experience in making sure that the implants are correctly inserted with minimal discomfort and pin-point accuracy. All treatment is planned and coordinated by your dental surgeon to ensure a perfect and seamless transition towards your implant fixed smile.

If life with a denture has become cumbersome or you have teeth that are failing because of decay or gum disease, same day implant teeth may be your passport to a new and confident smile.

For more information or to book a free consultation, phone 01923 859678 or e-mail: enquiries@dental-radlett.com; alternatively please visit our website: www.dental-radlett.com to view our special offers or to book on-line.

  19. Sprint to the finish with Cfast!

    adam cfast

Adam Myeroff has been a patient at our clinic for the past 13 years and he has always come for regular check-ups and hygiene visits. At the beginning of January he decided to go through the process of having his teeth straightened here at the clinic. This treatment is called Cfast which is a rapid and discreet cosmetic tooth alignment procedure.

After Adam saw pictures of the dramatic changes that can be achieved using cfast, this aroused his interest in straightening his teeth especially because the system is Fast (You will have straight teeth in about six months); Discreet (the wires and brackets are almost invisible); Affordable (the short treatment time dramatically cuts the cost).

Adam visited us in the beginning of January to have the Cfast appliance fitted on his upper and lower teeth.  Since his treatment we have learnt that he will be running in the London Marathon this year on the 13th April!

He has been training at least 4 or 5 times a week and he has been using the Strava app. The strava app posts to social media sites the location, how far and the time he has run. On Sunday he completed the Watford Half Marathon in 1hr 39mins! Well done Adam! Even though when asked how he found it, he replied ‘I could have done it 5 minutes quicker’. With that response it seems like he is definitely determined and focused in training hard and completing the London Marathon to the best of his ability!

The charity Adam is running for is Nicki’s Smile which is part of Pancreatic Cancer Uk. Nicki was one of his closest friends. If she was given the correct diagnosis after complaining of stomach pain and muscle weakness there is a very good chance she could still be here today.

The charity was set up by her husband Dan shortly after Nicki passed away and it is now supported by Pancreatic Cancer UK who will ring fence all monies raised to support research into the early diagnosis of this terrible disease.

If you would like to donate to this amazing worthy cause please go to Adam’s fundraising page and donate http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/AdamMyeroff

Keep an eye on our blogs to update you on Adam’s progress on training for the London Marathon and also the progress of his teeth getting straighter!

  20. Black Tooth

    dead tooth

A common reason why your tooth or teeth may appear black is because of staining. The more staining foods or drinks you have such as red wine, coffee, soy sauce and smoking, the quicker your teeth will stain. Also some mouthwashes can cause staining such as corsodyl. This is because they contain a chemical called chlorhexidine gluconate — an antiseptic designed to reduce bacteria and remove plaque, both of which can lead to bad breath. Visit your hygienist at least every 6 months to help maintain clean and white teeth.

If you notice black shadowing between your teeth or on the biting surface of your teeth this could be a sign of decay. You must visit your dentist as soon as possible to get it checked out before the decay spreads.

A dark, discoloured, black tooth is a sign your tooth may have died or is partially dead, this may have been caused by previous trauma or deep decay. Patients with a discoloured tooth often recall knocking their tooth in an accident some time ago which can then cause the nerve to die over time. This can actually take up to a few years for the tooth to change colour after trauma. The cause of the discolouration is thought to be decomposing blood products from the pulp inside the tooth.

This usually means that you would need to have the nerve removed and the root filled. There are many different ways to improve the colour afterwards from internal bleaching of the tooth to a crown if the tooth is also quite broken. To help prevent trauma or injury to your teeth it is always recommended to wear a mouthguard when playing contact sport.
