Thursday saw another successful Kids Day here at The Dental Clinic. Like previous Kids’ Days, we offered free check-ups all day, which came with a free raffle ticket for each child with a chance to win some amazing prizes!  Also, back by popular demand we had Michael the magician who came in to entertain the children whilst they were waiting to see the dentist. He amazed them with his magic tricks and made lots of balloon models for the children to go home with.

After the children had finished having fun  with the magician and had their check-ups, they made their way downstairs where they were met by Tracy our hygienist who gave them oral hygiene instructions and diet advice. There were also given lots of freebies including toothbrushes, sticker charts, toothpaste and egg timers!

On the way to see Tracy everyone couldn’t help but notice our new addition to the Kids Day… A photo booth! This was definitely very popular with the children, parents and not forgetting the staff! If you would like to have a photo booth for a birthday party or celebration, we would highly recommend booking through www.dobooth.com.

Congratulations to Jodie Gafson who won 1st prize on our raffle! And well done to Charlie Turnham and Ojas Sharma – they came 2nd and 3rd and won a top of the range electric toothbrush each!

Like us on Facebook & follow us on twitter to keep updated on our future Kids Day events. Also keep an eye out for any news at The Dental Clinic, dental advice, tips on how to look after your teeth and much more!

If you missed Kids Day and need to book your child in for a check-up please call us on 01923859678 and we will be more than happy to book an appointment for you.

If you are an adult and you are due to book a private check-up and a hygienist appointment you can use our online booking system.

  4. Welcome Nicola!

We would like to welcome the newest member of our team Nicola Bell.

Nicola has a background in dealing with customers at a hair salon in Marylebone for 6 years and has developed skills well suited to making sure that your visit to our clinic is a comfortable and pleasurable one.

At our clinic we like to ensure that every aspect of your visit is a positive one, from the welcome that you receive when you walk through the front door to the quality of the treatment that you receive when you see the dentist.

Nicola is on hand to deal with all your scheduling enquiries and to answer any questions you may have regarding your visit. Should you have any more detailed clinical or treatment enquiries, our treatment coordinator Lily Talbot is on hand to discuss on the phone or offer a free consultation to discuss your concerns or requirements.

Speaking to Nicola after her first week at the dental clinic, we asked her what she felt about her new role.

“I have worked here for a week now and feel like I have settled in and have been welcomed by a great team. I am enjoying working with a new clientele and learning about the amazing treatments that are carried out here at the dental clinic.”

Why rush to an appointment and leave it to the last minute? Stress in general, let alone just before a dental appointment, is never the best way to create a calm and relaxing experience. Why not leave a little extra time and wait in our comfortable reception area. You can chat with Nicola (I believe she has some great advice on hair and beauty products!), enjoy a hot drink and make use of our new free WiFi service.

We look forward to continuing our emphasis on providing a welcoming and friendly atmosphere and feel sure that you will join us in welcoming Nicola to our team.

  5. Work Day Out

    2014-06-19 09.04.07

On a warm sunny day in June, all the staff at the Dental Clinic _ Radlett set out for a fun staff bonding day.

Twice a year we have a day trip where we get a chance to relax and bond outside of the surgery and each time we try to do something different and interesting.

This year we headed in to London and split up in to two groups to do the Hinthunt challenge. For those of you who don’t know what Hinthunt is, it involves being locked in a large room and having to get out by solving a series of challenging clues and tasks.

The day itself turned out to be a glorious, stretching in to a beautiful English summer’s evening. Perhaps most interesting was to see how, as a group, we approached the problem solving at Hinthunt. The debriefing that you get beforehand stresses the importance of working together as a team.  Without necessarily planning to do so, on entering the rooms we immediately assumed a particularly responsibility and started to coordinate information effectively.

It is with a certain sense of pride that, when discussing our efforts afterwards, we realised that our approach to Hinthunt was simply an extension to our work team ethic. We have always prided ourselves on having an effective staff ethic. Every member of our staff has a unique role and quality that contributes to making our clinic well run, clinically excellent, rigidly clean and above all friendly and welcoming. It also may be the reason why our staff feel rewarded and valued and end up staying with us for so long.

  6. The Life of a Dental Student

    bradley lander 2

Growing up, I have always wanted to pursue a career involving science, largely due to the fact it has always been my favourite and strongest subject. I wanted a career where I could help others with my own ability and skill, as opposed to relying on the use of prescription.

In addition, there are massive rewards associated with Dentistry as opposed to other medical careers; mainly being able to see the results of your own work from diagnosis until the end of treatment and beyond. This will allow me to see how my work improves the life of a patient, whilst being able to share that experience with them, creating a strong rapport in the process.

My first thoughts about pursuing a career in Dentistry stem back to my early teens, after having my braces removed. Having such a positive experience throughout this time made me wish I could experience the same happiness I felt, with my own patients, on a daily basis.

As a patient at The Dental Clinic Radlett ever since I can remember, I have had no major dental treatment. Nonetheless, I have always found attending my appointments with Stuart extremely comfortable and actually relaxing. I am almost certain that my entirely positive experience with the clinic is the core to where my passion to succeed as a Dentist stems from. After all, would you go into a challenging career if you had nothing but hate or fear for it?

Having previously had no major dental treatment, it was vital to gain a wider overview of what the day-to-day life of a Dentist consisted of. I am very grateful to Stuart who gave me work experience for a full week. During this time, everyone at the clinic was very accommodating, supportive and most notably diligent. It is these types of experiences that shape my future hopes and aspirations, to be able to create a successful team of people, with a similar authenticity, which in turn creates an ideal environment to work in.

I have now been at Dental School at the University Of Leeds for over 6 months. My favourite thing about the Dental School is the support, encouragement and integration of the older years. On the first day, we were paired with a third year dental parent. As a result, we are integrated with the older years right from the start. This support and encouragement I receive, is similar to that of what I receive of Stuart, who also studied at Leeds.

Furthermore, the course itself is great. No more boring Biology lessons on the diversity of plants in The Galapagos Islands. I am studying what I enjoy, making the 8.30am lectures on a Monday morning that much easier. Leeds are the earliest starters in terms of clinical work; having already done plaque free scores, and scaling and polishing on phantom heads. Further to this, I will be giving my first anaesthetic after the Easter holidays.

The social side of things is also unbelievable. The DentsSoc run a number of socials every term, with participation from all 5 years, including the tutors. I will let you imagine the rest.

My enthusiasm and integration extends to my recent appointment as Leeds’ delegate for the European Dental Student Association. As a result, I am attending a 5 day conference in Slovakia on Sunday, with delegates attending from all across Europe. Exciting times!

Overall, I could not be happier. I love the city, the university and the course itself.

  7. How important to you is cross-infection in dentistry or any medical environment?

    insta

At the dental clinic last week the whole team sat down and had an update for 4 hours about sterilisation and cross infection. As it turned out the systems we have in place are well above standards and this was proven last month when the CQC (care quality commission) came to visit and praised our clinic for the high standards that we achieve.

Carmel Maher from Willow Infection Control spoke to us about the HTM 01-05  (Health Technical Memorandom 01-05) and any changes that had been made to it in 2013. We discussed all the changes that have been made to this lengthy document and we discovered that we were already complying with them to the highest standards.  Even though as a practice we are always up-to-date, it was extremely interesting to listen to all the information Carmel gave us in the training, especially hearing the reasons for some of the changes.

If you would like to know more about our sterilisation policies then please visit our website:

    www.dental-radlett.com

We are happy for you to pop in anytime to have a look around our practice and facilities.
